  1. Executive Committee

The following matters were discussed at the EC meetings: activities of the Council for the Development of Peace; book and family project; teaching   children’s literature in schools; funds for books for reviewing committees; putting EYP on various electronic sites; new membership, etc.                                               

 

  1. EYP Young Advisory Group

The group met to discuss the article on “society”. They also decided to introduce EYP in their schools and classes and to teach its use for research.

 

  1. EYP Promotion Group

The group went to several schools to introduce EYP through various activities.

A workshop was arranged for new comers.

 

  1. EYP and Distinguished Personalities

Lists of distinguished personalities were sent to various experts. It is estimated that some 200 Iranian names will be added to the previous list, which contained some 370 names, to have individual biographies.

 

  1. EYP Volume 8

Every effort is being made to present vol. 8 at the CBC anniversary in early January 2003.

    

      6.   Musical Performance

Satar Javahere Haghighi, member of EYP Young Advisors Group and Faraz Khanafari, the young blind musician, performed a concert at Tehran House of Artists.

 

 7.  EYP Specialist Groups

These groups meet every three months. At the recent meeting they talked of ways to attract and to train new contributors. Also more extensive use of computers was discussed.

 

8.      EYP Editors

Senior editors classified and identified various problems, which lead to the slowing down of the production of articles.

 

9.      Friends of EYP

The group attended the Kahrizak Charity where they promoted EYP and sold objects created to publicized the Encyclopedia.

 

10.  EYP at MAM

Parvin Fakharinia, member of the EC, attended a session at Madarane Emrooz, where she introduced EYP and its role among school children and young people to the mothers attending this meeting.

 

11.  EYP Executive Council

The Council hosted new members, besides routine affairs, major discussions included: EYP data bank, Iranian biographies and recruitment of specialists.

 

12.  Reviewing Executive Council

Some of the major topics were: reconstruction of CBC reviewing groups including writing, more participation by Council members in the reviewing groups, revision of criteria for writing and poetry, creation of research group with 20 members, first draft of the annual report of books reviewed in 1380, study of the reading lists given at the end of the first and the second year primary school

text books, new journals to be reviewed by the periodical committee, proposal to publish the list of recommended books every three months, and active collaboration with the Iranology Foundation on issues concerning children’s literature. The Council plans to invite different reviewing groups on a regular basis to discuss matters of mutual interest.

 

13.  Interview with Nasrin Emade Khorasani

The weekly magazine, Ketabe Hafte and the T.V. program Partow reflected the views of this distinguished colleague about information, librarianship, libraries, and their importance for both creativity and quality research.

 

14.  Call for Young Members

The EC has decided to invite young members of the CBC family to join in its various activities. With the consent of parents, young people aged 10 to 16 are invited to send their applications.

 

      15. Bamdad Small Libraries

            The committee is extending its services in deprived areas. It has invited all those            

            interested to work in school, public, rural and mobile libraries to join the first     

            general gathering.

 

      16. Stories about Disability

Following the call for such stories,160 works were reviewed by the committee and three works were selected as the best. Selection of artists to illustrate these works is under consideration.

 

17.  Correctional Facility

CBC has been working in close collaboration with Tehran Correctional Facility since 1994. This meeting was held to discuss new developments and the role of art in creating connections. Gita Garakani the translator of Karen Badi’s  It is always possible into Persian, was invited to answer different questions. The final suggestion stressed the need for knowledge of children’s literature for those who wanted to work at the CF.

 

18.  Research Library Collection

The library has requested all members to look into their old/childhood books and donate these to the research library. Copies will be taken and the originals returned if preferred.

 

19.  Bologna 2003

Information on this exhibition/book fair is available at the research library.

 

20.  IBBY Jubilee Congress

CBC delegation to the 28th IBBY Congress hosted a gathering at the House of Artists to report on the event. More than 200 persons attended this meeting. N. Ansari gave some information about preparing for the Congress and the happenings in Basel. All delegates were invited to make short comments. Zohreh Ghaeni summarized the six main speeches, and parts of the film, “Afsaneh Kachale Ghahreman” by Behrouz Gharibpour was shown at the end.

 

21.  Home Libraries

The Association of Writers for Children and Young Adults presented awards to the best home libraries at a special ceremony. CBC helped in judging the send in files and young members were active during the event. 

 

22.  Agricultural Bank

National Book Day was celebrated at the bank with speeches by T. Mirhadi, N. Ansari and Dr.Tamimdari. It was followed by an exhibition of books for children. The event was very well attended and the bank announced new programs to facilitate the buying of EYP and membership in public and inclusive libraries.

 

23.  Birjand Conference

The Conference on Children and Young People Literature was organized by Birjand University. Seventeen CBC colleagues made presentation on various subjects. The book exhibition was very well attended by school students and parents. The Resolution strongly recommended that children’s literature be taught at faculties of language, literature, arts, and foreign languages.

 

24.  Rural Libraries

Center for Cultural Development is an NGO dedicated to the development of libraries in deprived rural areas. Colleagues attending the Birjand Conference visited one such library in the village of Khong and were deeply impressed by these efforts.

 

25.  Young Writers

The group, which is made up of talented young writers is inviting new members aged 8-12 and 12-18 to join its activities.

 

      26. CBC’s Quarterly

With some delay, the Quarterly (no. 4, Winter 2002) is published. The theme of the issue is “users of children’s literature”.

 

27. Call for Papers

Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young People is holding a one day seminar on the subject of reading needs of children and

young adults in December 2002.

 

28.    Request

Colleagues are kindly requested to inform CBC of any interviews with the media, so that it can be reflected in the monthly Newsletter.
