1.  Among friends again

Mariam Ahmadi returned to her work of great dedication at Madaran-e- Emrooz (MAM). We wish her continued good health.

 

2. Executive Committee

Two meetings were held and the following matters discussed:

  • The development of small libraries;
  • CBC Anniversary;
  • need to review the reviewing criteria;
  • ways to develop systematic relationships with NGO’s and governmental organizations;
  • ICBD Bookmark 2003;
  • inclusion of recommended books in the Monthly Newsletter;
  • Need to draw new lending regulations for the research library, and new members.

 

3. Promotion Group

Three meetings were held by the group to promote the Encyclopedia for Young People (EYP) in different centers in Tehran. More than

160 teachers attended the sessions. Parvin Fakharinia held the final workshop. The group also met students at four primary and  one middle school to introduce EYP.

 

4. EYP Data Bank

Discussions continued to make the final selection of prominent figures, who have played lasting roles in the culture of Iran to be included in EYP

 

5. Sharing of Ideas

EYP had its first meeting entitled “ Iranian Outlook in EYP”. The second meeting will concentrate on structure of articles.

 

6. EYP Collaborators

The biographical data sheet has been revised and colleagues are urged to complete the forms for the EYP files.

 

7. New Books

Several organizations have donated valuable reference books to EYP. These will be exhibited for all contributors.

 

8.  Friends of EYP

The group with the help of CBC research library continues the program of EYP donations to deprived schools throughout the country.

 

9. CBC Anniversary

Special committee formed for this purpose, will undertake this program previously organized by the executive committee.

 

  10. Book Reviewing EC

The main discussions of the EC are as follows:

  • Annual  book review; changing the form of the CBC diploma; establishing a committee on the concept of peace;
  • Recommendations to colleagues who wish to change their working groups; and meeting with the members of the “criticism” group.

 

11. Fiction Reviewing Group

This group has created an information board to promote more interactive relations with other CBC groups.

 

12. Illustration Reviewing Group

The group has taken up a new reviewing approach. The works reviewed, will be presented to the jury for final decisions. The group coordinator is Mrs. Jamshidi. Participants at this meeting enjoyed the tape by Quantin Blake after he got the Hans Christian Andersen Award, 2002.

 

13. Children’s Literature

CBC is continuing to create great interest by teaching children’s literature in different Education Districts, particularly in the Second District where story telling, creative drama, poetry and games were presented to teachers. The group coordinator is Mrs. Ashraf Amini.

 

14. ICBD 2003

Mrs. M. Rai translated the International Children’s Book Day (April 2nd) Message into Persian. The motto “Books: The World in an Enchanted Network” and the poster appear on the CBC Calendar – Bookmark. The host country for 2003 is Brazil.

 

15. Pre – school Education

Rehabilitation Faculty held a one day seminar on the subject of pre-school education. Mrs. S. Ghezelayagh spoke on the role of games and the growth of cultural Identity. Mr. M. Naseri presented the report of the research group working on the selected bibliography for pre-school children. Ten Colleagues are participating in this ongoing research.

 

16. ISNA

To celebrate CBC’ s anniversary, ISNA inaugurated a site, which reflected various views on CBC’s different activities, through four decades.

 

17. Sick Children

Mrs. Z. Jahan donated two sets of Encyclopedia for Young People together with other books to two hospitals where CBC offers library services.

 

18. Libraries for Deprived Areas

This Committee is establishing pilot libraries in rural and peripheral areas, experimenting various methods of creating constant relationship between quality books, readers and CBC volunteers.

 

19. Two Films

Colleagues were invited to see a documentary film on Hushang Moradi Kermani. The producer of the film, Mr. Moradi, and Mr. Ramsari, the publisher of this well known author also attended the viewing. CBC colleague, Ali Mafakheri, presented a film of his two weeks stay in Afghanistan and the exhibition organized by him with the partial support of CBC.

 

20. Quarterly Bulletin

The recent issue ( Nos. 2 & 3, 2002 ) has been published. It covers the annual review of children’s literature and the annotated bibliography for 2001. All members are invited to procure this issue.

 

21. Internal Bulletin

More than ten groups are involved in reviewing books on a regular basis at the CBC. The Internal Bulletin ( Harfe Kitab ) will act as a communicative vehicle among the groups. Eleven colleagues formed the editorial committee, with Hamed Noori as coordinator. The first issue is to appear in winter 2003.

 

22. Children of the Book

Vol. 9 of this quarterly was published recently. Young CBC members do all the work and Mrs. A. Amini helps as the coordinator.

 

23. New Books

One of the major tasks of the reviewing committees is to identify and buy new books. 355 titles were bought during January 2003. Mr. H. Noori coordinates the work of this committee.

 

24. Workshop on Children’s Literature

The seventeenth workshop started with 81 participants and ended after five months with 50. During 16 sessions, various aspects of children’s literature were discussed. A more advanced course will be held for those who will be joining the reviewing groups.

 

25. Libraries for Children and Youth

In Jahan - e- Ketab, nos. 17 & 18, 2003, Mrs.S. Ghezelayagh discussed the critical situation of these libraries and accused the Library and Information Training Centers for neglecting such libraries.

 

26. Schools and Research

Nasrin Emad, chaired a round table with colleagues from the Ministry of Education to discuss issues pertaining to research at primary and secondary school level. The Association for Popularization of the Science organized the session.

 

27. Harry Potter in Ketab -e- Hafte

The speech by CBC colleague, Shokouh Hajnasrollah, presented at the Harry Potter Seminar, was published in Ketab-e-Hafte no. 102.

 

28. A. Mardiroosian

In an interview with Ketab-e-Hafte, no. 103,  Arsineh Mardiroosian, talked about her activities on the history of Armenian children’s literature and CBC’s role in leading her into this area.

 

29. Culture and Research

Several CBC colleagues were contributors of this magazine (no. 100). They were interviewed on folklore, the history of children’s literature and satire.

 

30. Iranology Congress

The next congress to be held in spring 2003 will concentrate on cultural characteristics of different provinces of Iran. Specialists on children’s literature are invited to send their contributions to the Congress Secretariat.

 

31. Mankind/Ensan

The vol. 4 of the pre-school reference books series was published in February 2003 by Center for Research on Pre-school Education ( Donya). CBC congratulates colleagues on this important contribution.

 

32. Persian Literary Learner

Mohammad H. Mohammadi published this important work in two vols. Nahad-e-Farsi Amoozi-e- Chista has been established to publish a series of texts to encourage the learning of Persian in an innovating and interesting way.

 

33. Popularization of Science

The Association has started publishing an internal Bulletin. Two colleagues were actively involved in preparing the first issue, of January 2003.

 

34. Student Members

Student members are invited to the first meeting entitled “Information Needs”. The Executive Committee hopes to establish more dynamic relationship with this group.

 

35. Condolences

CBC shares the grief of two colleagues, Mrs. Iran Gorgin and Mr. Yahya Mafi.
