connect to the Internet. Moreover the central intranet at SchoolNet facilitates their
access to the educational resources on the web.
SAF was founded by Abbas Edalat, Professor
of Computer Science and Mathematics at Imperial College, on 1st March 1999.
SAF operates under the management of its Board of Trustees and is supported by
executive committee.

Sharif University of Technology.

Campaign for Iran
The Science and Arts Foundation (Bonyad-e
Danesh va Honar) has begun an educational campaign for Iran.
"Bonyad-e Danesh va Honar" aspires to an ideal
future for Iran.
It will aim to provide the Iranian children with the opportunity to access high
standards of learning and education in order to achieve the best they could, regardless of
their circumstances.
It will promote its mission in the broadest possible way and will seek volunteers
across the world to organise its activities and fundraising.

Objectives
SAF will raise funds through the expatriate Iranian communities throughout the world
and educational charities abroad to:
 | Help to provide computer equipment and facilities for schools in the country, initially
for 100 schools by the year 2003. |
 | Develop a database on the World Wide Web both for the concrete needs of the educational
and research institutions in the country and the concrete help that experts, academics and
professionals abroad can provide to meet these needs. |
 | Provide help to obtain or update academic journals and textbooks in libraries across the
country. |
 | Provide scholarships and prizes in academic disciplines and in creative arts to enable
students and researchers to work productively in Iran and to create a self-sustaining and
effective educational system in the country. |
